That's a glossy, full colour softcover A5. 200 pages. Can play fantasy, pulp, sci fi fine without any of these supplements. I vote it best value for money wargame rules ever made. evilleMonkeighhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11998198938697175335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394074963215462822.post-44764381772529781432015-07-26T22:24:56.207-07:002015-07-26T22:24:56.207-07:00Dude, it's a generic game, but it was original...Dude, it's a generic game, but it was originally designed for pulp 1930s and VSF/mad science.... How can you say no to that?evilleMonkeighhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11998198938697175335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394074963215462822.post-59494368266488248602015-07-26T15:49:05.259-07:002015-07-26T15:49:05.259-07:00I know you've mentioned this system several ti...I know you've mentioned this system several times - I really must get around to checking it out one dayPaul O'Ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08611720164170399684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394074963215462822.post-47383369364806219302015-07-23T14:14:00.911-07:002015-07-23T14:14:00.911-07:00Well I was thinking how excited everyone seems to ...Well I was thinking how excited everyone seems to be about Frostgrave, despite its bare bones mechanics, and I thought "if we're so enthused, whats wrong with Savage Worlds - it has better mechanics, just as much magic, and campaign backgrounds and progression* to easily match any wargame"

(*actually the progression always seemed a bit vague to me, perhaps I never had the right supplements)evilleMonkeighhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11998198938697175335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394074963215462822.post-90034083117320134212015-07-23T14:11:35.484-07:002015-07-23T14:11:35.484-07:00I'd say it leans towards the wargames side of ...I'd say it leans towards the wargames side of things. FUDGE for example, was quite simple, but it's definitely a RPG. Savage Worlds is (imo) a skirmish game thats special rules got out of control. In fact, I'd suggest it's more wargame than Infinity. The Great Rail Wars could handle squads/groups of troops, 40K-style.

I notice most pulp rules I see coming out lately seem to use many SW mechanics. I wonder how subtly influential its been in terms of rules design. evilleMonkeighhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11998198938697175335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394074963215462822.post-81015815942001659882015-07-23T12:44:15.734-07:002015-07-23T12:44:15.734-07:00Savage Worlds is interesting in that it sits exact...Savage Worlds is interesting in that it sits exactly on that middle ground between RPGs and wargames.

Also, curiously, if you don't use the "hero" rules (I forget what it's caleld in the rules), it's actually pretty damn realistic. I do have a fair number of the companions already, but they have been gathering dust for some time. Might be time to dust them off and take another look.FilmExilehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15935064846182355579noreply@blogger.com
